Design Fee Fun

Indirect Expenses= cost of running an office (bills, paper, etc) Outside Consulting=cost of MEP,Structural, enclosure experts (stuff we don't know how to do or aren't willing to learn and accept liability for) Direct= our fees (stuff we're expected to know)

This means design fees are being consumed by specialized knowledge, rising energy costs, and increased insurance rates. It's probably time to bail or learn a trade.

Seating Ideas

This is an old image from 2009 or so I found for some seating design/storefront design.
It was for the ULI Gerald Hines competition I worked on with other students from the University
of Kentucky College of Design and U of L planning department and business. We lost. Maybe some
trees would have helped? Gotta love those floating planes, absurd glows, and zero humans, dogs, or trashcans.

Centerpoint Love

This is a proposal I helped out on with Mike Mckay, Liz Swanson, Graham Gordon, Patrick Fromm, and Amy Westermeyer. We did it in a couple of days for the re-design of the Centrepointe proposal for downtown Lexington,KY. Hopefully the new design by Studio Gang gets some love.

Collaborative Learning Environment

Another image from 2007 of a new Design School I designed for Lexington,KY. The studio
was taught by Mike Jacobs and had tons of good students in there. I'm not sure why I put the same woman walking everywhere and tweaked the camera like an insane person....and forgot curbs, streets, trees, etc. I called it a Collaborative Learning Environment...for reasons that escape me.

I found this image I made for a project in 2007 for a new Design School in Lexington,KY. I
think this was around midterm.

HMPL1_2010

This is a project completed with Ian Mchone for the reuse of a decommissioned power plant in Henderson,KY. The studio was taught by Marcelo Spina and Drura Parrish in 2010 at the University of Kentucky College of Design. Our project focused on reusing the available property around the existing main structure for office spaces, research facilities, and a hotel tower. The main building was preserved as a restaurant and museum.

Working Ecosystems

This was a portion of research I did at the University of Kentucky College of Design on a projection of urban farming on Manhattan to develop new types of public spaces. In this instance a farm typically used for food is now put to work as an ecosystem, in which the oyster reclaims the East River by attaching itself to our new infrastructure of liesure. The new floating swimming pool is now more than event.

CAM v 1/2

The first version of a proposal I worked on for a new Cincinnati Art Museum taught by Aaron Betsky and Drura Parrish.

Cinci Art Museum v 1.0

The building that never was. An early version of the box I later proposed for a new Cincinnati Art Museum.

Manhattan Oyster Farm

These two images are excerpts from a research project I worked on using oyster farms throughout Manhattan to help filter the water and provide public swimming pools.

HM 123

I found some old renders of a project completed by myself and Bobby Morris in 2010 that I've started to mess around with and tweak.

Since I can't afford the Honda, I'll have to settle for the chunkier cousin which I also can't afford.

Arts Complex_Spring 2011

This is an arts complex I designed for the Spring 2011 taught by Drura Parrish and Aaron Betsky, director of the Cincinnati Art Museum. All in all I decided to do a building that combined the Art Museum, Music Hall, and Playhouse into one massive structure located at the riverfront in a highly vulnerable location. The structure acts as a support for the proposed Brent Spence Bridge that would span across to Ky. I called it a necessary luxury, making a case for an integration between culture and state, however minimizing programmatic friction as much as possible.
